Dennis "The Kidd"s Recap of LsCon 2019

Heya everyone! Here is a little recap from me, Kidd (one of the organisers) on what was at the 5th iteration of Lusaka Comic Con which was held at NASDEC this year. The decision to switch to a bigger venue turned out to be an enlightened one as this year had the highest number of attendees and fun stuff to do.

The artist alley and vending areas were packed with new artists and convention veterans alike. This year con attendees could get everything from stickers, posters, necklaces and even garters. The quality of artwork has vastly improved over the years and it was nice seeing the evolution of the various artists journeys in their craft.

New and expanded panels in 2019

We also expanded upon one of last years highlights and had multiple panels in a designated Panel room. With panels ranged from Video Game Developers showcasing their games to a Zambian Film Makers Round Table. I personally hope we get a lot more fan panels on various wacky topics in conventions to come.

Live Music Performances

As per tradition the Convention had live musical performances from various artists such as AB x Eta and many others. This year we had an open invite to all upcoming artists send us their live demos just so that we could platform as many new faces as possible and we hope that they enjoyed performing on our stage and expanded their audiences.

Expanded eSports Section

This year was a record breaking year for our eSports numbers. For the first time ever the FGC (Fighting Game Community) had the most contestants, surpassing FIFA which is the first time this has ever happened at any of our events. We also saw the two juggernauts of professional Zambian eSports teams AI Gaming and Team Gematrix battle it out in the tournaments. We hope this trend continues so that the community can continue to grow and get better.

We also had a good number of PC LAN gaming enthusiasts playing mostly Rainbow 6 Siege and Dota 2. We plan to expand on the LAN gaming at future events so if you guys want to see that hit us up on social media. Also feel free to join our active group of gamers on Discord.

Amazing Cosplays!

To top it all off the Cosplay this year was truly amazing, the number of attendees who came in Costume more than tripled from last year and they were all so good. Here are a few Highlights!

Finally, later in the evening we had an after party at The Social in which we got to wind down and have a few drinks, dance and generally have a good night out. All in all the event was good fun and we hope to see more of you at our future events.
